The original 1928 version of Mickey Mouse is finally in the public domain as US copyright expires!
However, Mickey Mouse is registered as a trademark and therefore still enjoys some intellectual property protection. In addition, the newer versions of Mickey and Minnie Mouse are still protected by copyright. It is still necessary to be cautious when using one of Disney characters.
